Welcome to Hornbill Cafe Kuching, a charming culinary gem tucked away at 3 Carpenter St, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. This delightful restaurant captures the essence of local Malaysian dining, where traditional flavors meet heartfelt hospitality. If you're looking for an authentic taste experience, you might just find your new favorite spot here.

The atmosphere at Hornbill Cafe is both cozy and inviting. With a warm ambiance that feels like home, it’s the perfect setting to enjoy a meal with family or friends. The cafe is thoughtfully run by a single ladyboss, whose personal touch shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. While the eatery is modest and might take a little time for your meals to be prepared, the wonderful service and friendly environment make the wait worthwhile—even the locals think so!

One standout item on the menu is the Nasi Goreng Ayam Penyet, which has garnered praise for its rich flavors and satisfying portions, as one of the satisfied customers, Dennis Lim, noted: "It was a good meal!" Additionally, the cafe offers a selection of Chinese-style rice and noodles that are equally tempting, like the Cantonese-style Kuey Teow, which another customer has commented could be improved with a better char.

If you're like Laura Wright, who delighted in the iced honey lemon, chicken curry, and stir-fried vegetables during her visit, you’ll find that every dish has been carefully prepared. The fried chicken is a crowd-pleaser, capturing the essence of Malaysian comfort food with crispy skin and juicy meat that beckons you to take another bite.

Cameron Keyser reminds us that Hornbill Cafe might be a bit hidden, located near the grand archway without a conspicuous sign, but rest assured, the effort to find this place will pay off. The aroma of freshly made dishes wafts through the air, and as you dine, the single lady running the show ensures you're well taken care of, bringing out tasty meals right from the heart.

This is a cafe that celebrates the beauty of simplicity—a true testament to the vibrant local food scene in Kuching. So whether you’re after a leisurely lunch or a cozy dinner, Hornbill Cafe invites you to sit back, relax, and enjoy some of the best home-cooked flavors Malaysia has to offer. Make sure to stop by on your next adventure in Kuching; you won't be disappointed!

Small business with only one ladyboss running the whole show when we dined in for lunch. Local food, Chinese-style rice/noodle. The food was generally good and we particularly liked the sandwich. The Cantonese style kuey teow would be nicer if more charred. Waiting time for food may be longer, expectedly so but it's reasonably fast considering the boss was cooking herself among other chores. The environment is comfortable with air-conditioning, nice alternative if you're not in the mood for more touristy places.

Amazing food from adorable owners! We stopped by on our last night in Kuching and were very happy we did. I had the iced honey lemon, chicken curry, stir fried vegetables and the fried chicken. I would recommend them all!

Great option for lunch or dinner near the Kuching Waterfront. It is a bit hard to find as it is right next to the large archway that stretches over the street and there is no sign for the restaurant on the door. There is only one lady who is working and taking orders, so it can take a bit of time for the food to come out but that was no issue for us. We came around 12:30 on a Saturday and we were some of the first customers to sit and order (there is a buffet available as well). We ordered tomato kuey tiaw and egg fried rice and we thoroughly enjoyed them both. The tomato kuey tiaw is a Sarawak specialty and has a slight bit of sweetness to the broth. The prawns and chicken were so tender though and it has that homemade flavor to it. The egg fried rice was just as impressive. All of this for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend giving this place a try

Homecook taste. Portion is huge. Prices are relatively cheap. Tomato kueh tiao and teh c peng for RM8.50. Prawns are fresh, with pork balls and fish balls! No char taste to the kueh tiaw, sadly. My drink is diluted. Wait time is long but you can always get a seat. I waited close to 30 minutes for a plate of kueh tiaw. But the prices are cheap and at the level of kopitiam prices, but the eating place is well decorated and hygienic!

Just a few steps from the harmony arch, this is one of the very few places in the area that serves food till late (around 9.30-10pm). The nice couple who runs the place took our order even though they were almost done for the day. We tried the tomato kway teow and it was so good, we came back again just for it! The handmade ngoh hiang is worth a try too. And the prices are extremely low for an air-conditioned spot (actually, the air-conditioning is too strong...)
